We understand that having your friends and family around makes the recovery process more comfortable.  For your convenience and safety, we allow two visitors per patient room.  Visitors passes are required and may be obtained at the Information Desk in the main lobby.  General visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in most patient care areas.

Intensive Care Units require special visiting hours.  Open visitation in these units occur from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.  Intensive Care Units allow two persons with passes to remain in designated waiting areas between open visitation periods.

For the safety and comfort of our patients and visitors, Rio Grande Regional Hospital appreciates your cooperation with the following guidelines:

• Rio Grande Regional Hospital is a non-smoking facility.  Please use the designated smoking areas outside the building at a minimum of 50 feet from hospital entrances.
• Children under the age of 14 are not allowed above the first floor.
• Siblings are encouraged to visit the new baby on the Maternity Floor; please check with the Information Desk or Nurses Station for sibling visit guidelines.
• Visitors must dress appropriately and wear proper shoes.
• Visitors in semi-private rooms should be considerate of both patients.
• People with colds, sore throats or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.
• Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.
• Visiting times may change due to the needs of the patient and the activities of the nursing unit.
• Firearms are not permitted on the hospital premises and will be confiscated when found if not immediately removed from hospital grounds.  The McAllen Police Department is notified of any firearms found on hospital property and not removed upon request.
• Please park in appropriate parking spaces.  In an effort to comply with Homeland Security Initiatives and maintain access to hospital entrances, illegally parked or unattended vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.
• For the safety and protection of our infants, large bags/baskets and car seats are prohibited above the first floor.
• For patient safety and cleanliness, outside food items are not allowed above the first floor.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is operated by the Rio Grande Regional Hospital Volunteers or auxiliary and is open Monday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The Gift Shop carries gift items, greeting cards, flowers, candy, toiletries, and a wonderful selection of baby gifts and toys.  You may reach the Gift Shop at extension 6151.
